Long term results after Ileal Pouch-anal Anastomosis

Short summary

The aim of this study is to investigate the outcome of ileal-pouch anal anastomosis (IPAA) over time and to identify and determine the postoperative complications and causes of pouch failure and excision.

The study is retrospective and with a 30 year follow-up in order to determine predictive factors for complications with special concern for pouch-failure.

Rationale

Over the last 30 years many aspects of IPAA surgery has changed, the technique, minimally invasive surgery, stapling, antibiotic regimes and fast track surgery, yet we do not know the impact of these implementation on long term complications and pouch failure.

Description of the cohort

All patients undergoing an IPAA in the Region of Southern Denmark.

Data and biological material

Journal data especially related to the surgical procedure.
