Motivational interviews as intervention for women with PCOS and a BMI over 30 kg/m2

Short summary

The aim of this study is to investigate whether motivational interview can help obese women with PCOS to lose weight. Obese women with PCOS are in high risk of developing diabetes II and other co morbidities. Motivational interview has helped other groups of patients to weight loss or to fight an addiction. We will randomize 30 patients to either motivational interview or to a control group who has to lose weight on their own. At the beginning of the study and after half a year, the groups are compared in regards to weight, blood samples and questionnaires.

Description of the cohort

The patients will be recruited from the out-patient section for PCOS at the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at Odense University Hospital
Only women with the syndrome PCOS and a BMI of 30 kg/m2 or above, will be included.

The exclusion criteria are the use of any sexual hormone drug such as birth control pill, pregnancy and the need for a translator.

Data and biological material

At the beginning of the study and after half a year data on weight, hip and waist measurements and knowledge about the progression of the syndrome will be collected.

There will be a hair sample and the participants will fill out questionnaires such as the SF-36, MDI depression score, and a PCOS questionnaire.
