Various forms of cellular therapies are used in the treatment of haematological cancer. Autologous transplant of haematopoietic stem cells allowing administration of high dose chemotherapy, autologous T-cells genetically re-engineered to target specific tumor antigens and allogeneic haematopoietic stem cells administered in order to eliminate resistent minimal residual disease.
The department of Haematology, Odense University Hospital has performed autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplants for several years. Within recent years, patients undergoing allogeneic haematopoietic transplants has returned from allo-transplanting centers (Aarhus University Hospital and Rigshospitalet) three months after their transplant for further treatment and follow-up. We envision performing the tranplants here at OUH in the years to come. Moreover, new cellular therapies have emerged, here among chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cells.
Advanced celllular therapies requires a highly specialized set-up and infrastructure including a database that meets international accrediation standards, Joint Accreditaion Committee ISCT and EBMT (JACIE). The department of Haematology has initiated this accreditation proces and OPEN supports the database.
