Short summary

To determine the prevalence and risk factors of IPV (emotional, physical and sexual) among pregnant women. By using data from the IPV screening instrument, based Patient Reported Information (PRO data) for the women attending antenatal care and data from the Danish register. The cohort study will determine the association between IPV exposure and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Information about pregnancy outcome will be retrieved from the Danish Nation Patient register (LPR3).

Rationale

Background

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is one of the most common forms of violence against women and a global health problem. IPV during pregnancy can have serious consequences for both the woman and her offspring. The overall aims of the study are to assess the prevalence and risk factors of IPV among Danish pregnant women and describe how IPV may be associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Description of the cohort

Pregnant women attending antenatal care at Rigshospitalet, Hvidovre Hospital, Odense University Hospital, Kolding Hospital, Aabenraa Hospital and Esbjerg Hospital. The women will be enrolled over 12 months. The anticipated number of women screened is 16936, based on the total annual number of deliveries at the 7 hospitals.
