The aim of this study is to develop and test a patient app to promote a shared agenda at hospital ward rounds. The project is a Participatory Design study divided in three phases: 1) Identification of needs, 2) Development and design and 3) Pilot test.
Hospital ward rounds provides the forum for reviewing and planning patient care during a hospital stay. Despite the knowledge that the inclusion of patients is beneficial to patient care, the literature shows limited reference to patient involvement in the ward rounds. In this research project, we will develop a patient app that can support the communication between the clinicians, the patients and their relatives in relation to hospital ward rounds. The purpose of the app is to give patients and their relatives the opportunity to become more active partners in the planning of their treatment and care during the hospital stay.
The project is conducted at the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Lillebaelt Hospital, Kolding in close collaboration with CFPK (Center for Patient Communication) at Odense University Hospital. Adult patients ≥ 18 years of age and their relatives as well as doctors and nurses from the department will participate in the study.
Data will be collected through different user-involving activities eg. field studies, focus groups, workshops and tests in clinical practice.
