Translation, cultural adaptation and psychometric testing of the PRO questionnaire 'The Brachial Plexus Tool' (BrAT).

Short summary

The purpose of the study is translation, cultural adaption and psychometric testing of the questionnaire BrAT. The BrAT measures the activity ability of patients with traumatic Brachialis Plexus injuries. Along with other assessment tools at body level, BrAT can be used to plan, set goals for and measure the effect of treatment and rehabilitation.

Rationale

Odense University Hospital (OUH) has the national function in treatment and rehabilitation of patients with Brachial Plexus injuries in Denmark. At OUH, we have an interdisciplinary Brachial Plexus Team. We use the PRO questionnaire DASH, which is not specific to the patients with Brachials Plexus injuries. In Denmark, we lack a PRO questionnaire for this patient Group. BrAT is a questionnaire with 31 questions which measures self-assessed activity ability in the affected upper extremity in patients with traumatic Brachial Plexus injuries. BrAT can be used to plan, set goals for and measure the effect of treatment and rehabilitation. BrAT is developed in Australia, and has good psychometric properties. The purpose of the study is translation, cultural adaption and psychometric testing of the questionnaire BrAT.

Description of the cohort

The included are adult patients with traumatic Brachial Plexus injuries. They are outpatients, and they are included in the study mostly in continuation of another appointment in one of the following departments: The Department of Rehabilitaion and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Odense University Hospital.

Data and biological material

We collect demographic data from the patients (sex, age, education, date of injury and operation), data from the questionnaire BrAT, and information about their injury and treatment from the journal.
