The Fast-track Center for Hip and Knee Replacement consists of 8 dedicated arthroplasty departments representing all five health-care regions in Denmark. All departments have similar well-established fast-track protocols. The Database registers preoperative characteristics and postoperative complications up to 90 days after surgery using a combination of patient surveys and electronic health records.
The aim of the project is to investigate patient safety and satisfaction after these procedures . Focus is on implenteation, safty and healthcare utilisation in a day-surgery setting and on identification and increased clinical focus on "high-risk" patients.
All patients having elective hip or knee replacement at the public hospitals in Hvidovre, Vejle, Farsoe, Gentofte, Næstved, Gødstrup, Bispebjerg and Svendborg are asked to participate.
Demographic and clinical data are collected using patient reported surveys and from the electronic health records. Prescribed medication is aquired from the "fælles medicin kort" or patient records. Some departments collect information on patient reported outcomes and work status using patient surveys. Patients having day-surgery complete a questionaire on emergency visits, GP visits (including after hour visits "lægevagten/1813) 30 days postop. information on postoperative complications, readmissions and death is collected from the patient records by dedicated research personnel.
