Liver transplantation is the only curative treatment for patients with end-stage liver disease. In Denmark, more than 600 patients live with a transplanted liver. However, the long-term survival is poor. Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are common complications post-transplantation and contribute to mortality. To improve long-term survival, information about the incidence, risk factors, and pathogenesis of CVD is needed. HYPOTHESIS The incidence of CVD in liver transplant recipients is higher.
This study aims to determine
- Whether the prevalence of CVD including coronary artery disease, electrophysiological abnormalities, and cardiac dysfunction in liver transplant recipients is different from that in the general population.
- Whether liver transplantation or liver graft function are independent risk factors for
