Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segment Spectacle Lenses (DIMS) versus Orthokerathology lenses (OKL) for slowing myopia progression in Danish children aged 6-12 years. The non-inferiority NISDO Study.

Short summary

A randomized clinical trial which compares the efficacy of a new type of spectacles called Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments (DIMS) spectacle with Ortho-K lenses (OKL) for slowing myopia progression in Danish children aged 6-12 years. Further, the study investigates the vision related quality of life and the effect of pupil size and choroidal thickness on treatment efficacy.

Rationale

OKL have been shown to effectively reduce myopia progression by reducing axial elongation. The DIMS spectacle have shown similar results in one randomized clinical study. It has not previously been investigated whether the two modalities are equally effective. The aim is to conduct a head to head study of OKL and DIMS spectacles to compare the myopia control efficacy of the devises.

Description of the cohort

Myopic children aged 6 to 12 years.

Data and biological material

Age, refraction, anatomical measurements of the eye e.g. axial length, choroidal thickness, pupil size, and a questionnaire.
