To investigate the association between induction of labour and risk of cesarian sectio or instrumental delivery. Additionally, to investigate the association between induction of labour and intra- and postpartum complications for the mother and child.
Pregnancy related complications such as diabetes, preeclampsia, hypertension, hepatosis or intrauterin growth restriction might lead to termination of the pregnancy by inducing labour. Induction of labour is commonly used in obstetric departments as in 2018, 24,0% of all
.Induction and stimulation with Oxytocin during labour may be associated with complications during and after labour both for the mother and child. Hyperstimulation of the uterus, increased fetal heart rate or excessive bleeding post partum are the most common side effects caused by induction.
The ARRIVE study is a large randomised study that investigate weather induction of labour in gestational week 39+0 is associated with an increased risk of cessarian section compared to women giving birth spontaneously. The study found that induction of labour was associated with a decreased risk of cessarian sectio.
In order to optimise the birth proces among women giving birth at the obstetric Department at Odense University Hospital, we will systematically go through all initiations of labour at OUH in 2021.
