Patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage often experience vasospasms in the bloodvessels of the brain. Vasospasm prevents the supply of oxygen and other nutrients to the healthy brain, which is thereby destroyed. Vasospasms can cause severe neurological damage and also may result in death. The mechanism behind vasospasm is unknown, several theories have been described but not yet uncovered. There is no good treatment for these vasospasms.
