For many years, patients with severe heel bone fractures have been offered surgery to improve the position of the fracture. However, the traditional surgery has been associated with wound healing problems. At Department of Orthopaedics, OUH we have, for the last 1,5 years, used a newer method with a gentler approach. The purpose of the project is to investigate whether the changed surgical approach results in improved wound healing.
The changed surgical method is gentler on the skin, but we do not know whether it leads to a better result. With the new method you have a poorer insight to the fracture, which can lead to poorer treatment. However, we expect that there will be fewer wound healing problems and the same postoperative outcome in terms of X-ray.
