Short summary

The current project utilizes data from the South Danish Obesity Initiative (SDOI) conducted at the Southwest Jutland Hospital.

Participants in the SDOI undergo extensive screening for diseases related to severe obesity. In addition to physical tests, participants fill out several questionnaires related to risk factors for the development of obesity.

The aim of the project is to investigate the reliability and validity of the questionnaires used in the SDOI.

Rationale

In 2021, 18.5% of the adult Danish population were obese. Obesity increases the risk of lifestyle diseases such as type-2 diabetes, high blood pressure, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and others. Despite the high prevalence of disease among people with obesity and the importance of early diagnosis, obesity-related diseases are often underdiagnosed.

The current project utilizes data from the South Danish Obesity Initiative (SDOI) conducted at the University Hospital Southwest Jutland. The purpose of SDOI is to offer a systematic and focused diagnosis and treatment for people with severe obesity (BMI > 30 kg/m2).

Participants in the SDOI undergo extensive screening for diseases related to severe obesity (high blood pressure, diabetes, pre-diabetes, dyslipidemia, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome, sleep apnea etc.). All results are entered into a secure journal system - the SDOI database (registered as 20-28939) owned by the Region of Southern Denmark. In addition to physical tests, participants fill out several questionnaires regarding risk factors for the development of obesity. Some of the questionnaires have been translated or specifically designed for the SDOI, and only a few have been validated under Danish conditions.

Description of the cohort

Project participants are recruited from the South Danish Obeisty Initiative (SDOI). The main study population are people with Obesity (BMI > 30 kg kg/m^2). however control from the SDOI with a BMI <30 are also included.
