INPH is a condition in which the ventriucular system of the brain is enlarged. This enlargement affects gait, urinary control and cognitive function. Currently, diagnosing the right patients is challenging, and there is a great need for a diagnostic tool. An analysis of the CSF from approximately 100 patients will be conducted. After shunting, the CSF will be collected and correlated with biomarkers before shunting. We anticipate that biomarkers could assist the physician in the clinic.
The purpose of this project is to investigate whether the composition of certain proteins (biomarkers) in the blood and in the brain's fluid system can be used to assess which patients with the disease iNPH may have a positive effect from a shunt operation. If one or more biomarkers are found to be associated with the effect of shunt surgery on the disease, it will have a great impact on the diagnostic proces in the future.
