The ependymal wall of the ventricles are alligned with cilia. The cilia play a crucial role in clearing the CSF and influencing its dynamics. We anticipate a reduction in the cilia function among patients with iNPH. During the shunting procedure for iNPH patients, small biopsies will be collected from the ventricular wall. Additionally, biospies from patients with obstructuve NPH undergoing third ventriculostomy will also be colleceted. Subsequently, the biopsies will be analyzed and correlated.
INPH is a condition in which the ventricular system of the brain is enlarged. This enlargement affects gait, urinary control, and cognitive function. Currently, the etiology of the condition is not well known. The cilia function is crucial in clearing the waste products of the CSF and influencing its dynamics. The characteristics of cilia will be investigated, and a genetic analysis of specific genes coding for the dynein motor will be conducted.
