The prevalence of mental illness has been rising in recent years, with approximately 1 in 8 people globally, or about 970 million individuals, affected by mental disorders. This statistic encompasses a wide range of conditions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other mental health issues. Research indicates that mental illness is associated with a variety of highly concerning outcomes and significant negative socioeconomic consequences. Therefore, it is more crucial than ever to research mental illness across generations and among all age groups, including children, adolescents, and adults. The aim is to describe the prevalence of mental illness among children, adolescents, and adults, as well as the risk factors for and consequences of these diseases.
We include all individuals in Denmark born after January 1, 2016 and their parents adding up to more than 4 million individuals. The project is registerbased and information from clinicial sub-cohorts will be added.
Data from the National health registers including but not only the National Patient Registry, the Prescription Registry, the Cause of Death Registry. Further we add information on sociodemographic including education and income. For subcohorts, we include questionnaire data on mental health.
