Children with severe lung disease

Short summary

The database will provide useful knowledge how to optimize treatment of severe lung disease in children and provide data on which parameters that are the best predictors of the long term outcome in different lung diseases.

Rationale

There are several reasons for severe lung disease in childhood. Children can have congenital malformations, severe asthma, a variety of rare severe lung diseases or have impaired lung function due to another systemic disease. New treatments are continuously introduced and new lung function tests are developed, but the evidense for treatment and optimal follow-up are scarce. This prospective database will enable collection of valuable data on lung disease in children thereby optimizing future treatment and follow-up in a group of severely ill children.

Description of the cohort

All patients at Hans Christian Andersen Children's Hospital with severe lung disease will be included. This includes patients aged 0-18 years with the following diagnoses: severe asthma, Childhood interstitial lung disease (BPD), Childhood interstitial lung disease (chILD), congenital malformations of the lungs/airways, systemic diseases with lung involvement, infections etc.

Data and biological material

Only data from the patient journal will be included. This includes demographic data, lung function tests, medical treatment.
