OPENTHYRO - Odense Patient data Explorative Network Thyroid Status and Register Outcomes

Short summary

The purpose of the registry survey is to investigate the association between hypo- or hyper function of the thyroid gland and mortality.

Rationale

The purpose of the registry survey is to investigate the association between hypo- or hyper function of the thyroid gland and mortality. The investigation will be based on the results of blood samples analyzed at Department of Clinical Biochemistry and Pharmacology at Odense University Hospital.

The survey has three sub targets

  • Primary outcome: Mortality
  • Secondary outcome: Cardiovascular events (AMI, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, cardiac arrest)
  • Autoimmune diseases, fractures (major osteoporotic fractures), fertility rate, miscarriage and birth weight

Co-variations such as co-morbidity, use of medicine, and certain social economic factors will be taken into account.

Description of the cohort

All persons with at least one TSH measurement will be included.

Data and biological material

Data of all TSH measurements in the time period January 1st 1995 until December 31st 2010. Further information will be extracted by using the social security number of the patients to obtain results for the following blood analysis: Total T3, total T4, TPO, TRAP, lipids, albumin, hemoglobin, creatinine, total calcium, potassium, sodium, HbA1c, ALAT, bilirubin and INR.

Register data from the following databases will be linked for identification and covariance: The National Patient Registry, The Death Cause Registry, The Medical Birth Registry, Medical Product Statistics Registry and Statistics Denmark will through OPENs authorization provide data concerning social economic status etc.
