Intracerebral haemorrhage and use of drugs
Short summary
The purpose of the project is to study the epidemiology of intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) with focus on the association between this disorder and use of drugs.
Rationale
The main aims of this project are to determine:
- validity of ICH diagnosis in Danish registries
- association between use of various drugs, eg, antithrombotics, and risk of ICH
- association between use of various drugs and prognosis after ICH
As part of this project, the above aims will be extended to other forms of intracranial haemorrhage, ie, subdural haematoma and subarachnoid haemorrhage.
Description of the cohort
The project comprises nationwide and regional studies based on several observational designs, including case-control, and cohort studies. Danish registries will be used to identify patients, and their corresponding controls or comparison cohorts. Information from registries will be used to classify exposure to drugs and comorbidity of individuals included in the studies.
Data and biological material
Data will be retrieved from several registries, including the Danish National Patient Registry, the Danish Stroke Registry, national and regional prescription registries, and the Danish Civil Registration System. The nationwide studies will be further supplemented with information from registries available at Statistics Denmark, where the nationwide data will be stored. Regional data will be supplemented with information retrieved from medical records, and imaging studies and will be stored at Department of Neurology, Odense University Hospital.
