Investigating whether the Incisional Negative Pressure Wound therapy have an effect on seroma formation among women having a mastectomy because of breast cancer. We compare a conventional dressing with the Negative Pressure dressing. We compare the seroma formation between the groups. Secondly we investigate whether there is a difference in postoperative complications.
It is a fact that most women develop seroma after mastectomy, different dressings and techniques have been tried to minimize the amount of seroma. Negative Pressure dressings have shown good results in other patient categories minimizing the postoperative seroma formation. We want to investigate whether the Negative Pressure dressing can be used among these women having a mastectomy because of breast cancer.
Women, operated in Odense University hospital, having a mastectomy and either a sentinel node biopsy or a axillary dissection. They are treated for breast cancer.
We register the amount of seroma and the basic patient informations such as age, BMI, comorbidities.
