Perimesencephal subarachnoidal blødning uden kendt blødningskilde, diagnosticering, udredning og komplikationer

Short summary

Every year, around 50 patients, is admitted at the neurosurgical department at Odense University Hospital, with suspected subarachnoid hemorrhage of venous origin. The acute symptoms of a venous perimesencephalic bleeding include headache, but no loss of consciousness. Although the symptoms of the venous perimesencephalic bleeding, resembles the aneurismal perimesencephalic hemorrhage, the perimesencephalic bleeding are considered to achive a good aoutcome. Little research has been conducted on the topic of perimesencephalic venous bleedings. The aim of this study is to investigate the incidence and possible complications of this specific type of bleeding.

Rationale

The purpose of the study is to examine the occurrence of subarachnoidal hemorrhage without known source of bleeding, as well as highlight the early and the late complications of the condition. The degree of invalidity, caused by the perimesencephalic hemorrhage of venous origin, is an important issue. In this study, we plan to implement a patient questionnaire, to enlighten this matter. By acquiring knowledge about the early and late complications, related to the diagnosis, we will have the opportunity to initiate targeted actions in the future. These actions might be useful in the process of helping the patients resume their daily activity and work, at a reasonable level compared to the condition prior to the incident.

Description of the cohort

The cohort consists of patients diagnosed with perimesencephalic bleeding with no arterial bleeding source obtained

Data and biological material

The investigation consists of data collected from the patient journals as well as a supplementary patient questionnaire.
