Årsager til øget langtidsmortalitet efter status epilepticus

Short summary

The long-term mortality of patients with status epilepticus is high and approximately 50% of the affected patients died within 2-3 years after the diagnosis. The reason for this high overall mortality is unknown, etiology of the epileptic seizures alone does not sufficiently explain the bad outcome. This study aims at establishing hypotheses on the high overall mortality.

Rationale

Data from electronic patient journals of all patients treated with status epilepticus from 2008-2017 is retrospectively analysed. Given that almost all patients had a long-term followed up in the outpatient clinics, hypotheses on the causes of long-term mortality shall be established.

Description of the cohort

All adult patients with non-anoxic status epilepticus treated at the Department of Neurology, Odense University Hospital.
