Patient reported outcome after surgery for simple appendicitis

Short summary

Research have already been conducted on surgical complications following appendectomy, such as bowel perforation, bleeding, infections, and their management. However little is known about the short and long term recovery from the patients point of view after discharge. More evidence is needed to provide the clinicians with a greater knowledge to aid shared decision making on a suitable treatment for acute appendicitis.

Rationale

The objective of this study is to use patient reported outcome in order to describe quality of life for a patient after a laparoscopic appendectomy as a treatment for acute appendicitis through the electronic and validated European quality of life questionnaire.

Description of the cohort

The cohort consists of all patients who underwent a laparoscopic appendectomy, with and without complications such as perforation or abscess. Patients must be competent, over 18 years old, and are included from Surgical Department A, Svendborg.
