Extended Mesenteric resection in ileocecal Crohn's Disease to prevent recurrent disease - A randomized controlled trial.

Short summary

The EXCEED study is a multinational, blinded randomized controlled trial (RCT). The study compares two types of ileocecal resection in Crohn's Disease. A standard ileocecal resection is compared to an extended mesenteric resection. The study is designed as a two-arm superiority study including 204 participant. The objective is to examine whether extended excision of the mesentery in Crohn's disease can effectively reduce recurrence.

Rationale

The aim of this study is to investigate whether an extended mesenteric resection can prevent signs of recurrence at the anastomotic site.

Description of the cohort

Patients with medically resistant Crohn's disease in need of ileo-cecal resection. Primarily included during outpatient visits.

Data and biological material

Surgical data, complication data, histological results from biopsier and resection material, questionnaires.
