Retrospective report and follow-up of adult patients with autoimmune diabetes
Short summary
Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is the second most common form of diabetes. However, few follow-up studies have been performed. The aim of the present study was to describe clinical aspects in adult patients with LADA during a 12-year period compared to adult patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM).
Rationale
Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is the second most common form of diabetes. However, few follow-up studies have been performed. The aim of the present study was to describe clinical aspects in adult patients with LADA during a 12-year period compared to adult patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). We also want to examine the fraction of individuals presenting with serological conversion from anti-GADab positive to negative state and visa versa. Finally, we want to test whether fasting C-peptide at baseline was a predictor of the need for insulin treatment. Patients with LADA and a matched group patients whom consents to be part of this study will be interviewed and blood will be drawn for biobank purposes.
Description of the cohort
We are inviting randomly selected patients with LADA and duration and gender matched patients with T2DM. All patients have previously been referred to Department of Endocrinology, Odense University Hospital Denmark and have available data on both clinical and biochemical features at baseline.
Data and biological material
