Short summary

Lung cancer is a common cancer type and is often diagnosed at a late stage. Biomarkers may be useful in the diagnostic setting. The VELCRO-BIO project is a biobank and clinical database of patients undergoing diagnostic work-up for lung cancer at the Department of Medicine, Lillebaelt Hospital Vejle. The purpose of the biobank is to collect a variety of blood samples and clinical data for future research projects to facilitate translational biomarker research in lung cancer.

Rationale

Lung cancer is one of the most common and deadly cancer types. Improved diagnostics may lead to earlier detection and better prognosis for these patients. The VELCRO-BIO project is a biobank and clinical database of patients undergoing diagnostic work-up for lung cancer at the Department of Medicine, Lillebaelt Hospital Vejle. The purpose of the biobank is to collect a variety of blood samples and clinical data for future research projects. With the biobank, we hope to facilitate translational biomarker research across the lung cancer trajectory with special focus on early diagnosis.

Description of the cohort

Patients suspected of having lung cancer undergoing diagnostic work-up at the Department of Medicine, Lillebaelt Hospital Vejle.

Data and biological material

The biobank will contain a variety of blood samples for future research projects. Data collected in REDCap include demographic data, smoking history, family history of lung cancer, lung function test results, standard blood work, imaging data, and histopathological data.
