Establishment of a Pulmonary Biobank to Support Future Research in Respiratory Diseases

Short summary

The biobank supports research focused on the identification and validation of biomarkers for respiratory diseases, with a particular emphasis on early detection of lung cancer. By enabling detailed post hoc analyses of blood samples collected from PLUS participants, the biobank facilitates investigations into specific molecular markers and risk factors associated with disease onset and progression.

Rationale

This initiative seeks to establish a robust resource for longitudinal studies, providing insights into the biology of lung cancer within the Danish population. By facilitating the identification of predictive biomarkers, the biobank aims to contribute significantly to early detection efforts, improved screening accuracy, and potential targeted interventions.

Description of the cohort

All participants (n=1,332) enrolled in the ongoing pilot study - Project Lung Cancer Screening in Southern Denmark (PLUS) - will be invited to participate in the biobank by donating a blood sample.

Data and biological material

1. Blood sample 2. Cross reference with all data registered in the PLUS database (OP_2108)
