In Denmark, there are approximately 100,000 emergency room visits due to fractures of arms and legs and about 15,000 patients undergo surgery. However, there is no clear follow-up on patient outcomes in relation to specific treatment choices. We aim to investigate incidence and risk factors for fractures and to follow this cohort over time regarding complications, morbidity, and mortality. We will adjust for potential confounders including demographics, socioeconomic factors and comorbidities.
The aim is to investigate incidence, risk factors, complications, morbidity, and mortality in patients with bone fractures in Denmark. The study will contribute to increased knowledge about patient outcomes after fracture treatment.
Patients with fractures in the musculoskeletal system. The fracture population will be established by OPEN's administrators in the Register Database. The population consists of individuals with the diagnosis code DS2 (excluding DS02) from 1996 onwards. Individuals must be residing in Denmark at the time of diagnosis.
Data from Danmarks Statistik. Cpr number, age, sex, height, weight, socioeconomic data, fracture type, placement of fracture, number of fractures, classification of fracture, treatment, surgery/non-surgery, time of surgery, type of surgery, re-treatment (secondary procedures).
