Blood stream infection with anaerobic bacteria is associated with significant mobidity and mortality. In two population-based cohort studies based on register data, we will examine the risk factors for and the mortality of anaerobic bacteraemia. Furthermore we will examine outcome in relation to antibiotic treatment.
What is the level of underlying diseases, including cancer, in Danish patients following hospitalization with anaerobic bacteremia? What are the fatality rates in Danish patients with clinically significant anaerobic blood stream infection? In addition, what risk factors are associated with mortality? Given the marked progress in microbiological diagnostics and the changes in antimicrobial susceptibilities, and empirical antibiotic therapy, do patients with Bacteroides bacteremia receive appropriate therapy and how does this contribute to patient survival?
Adults hospitalised with anaerobic bacteremia in Denmark between 2010 and 2023.
