The effect of intravenous fluids compared to oral fluids on hemodynamics and biochemistry in healthy volunteers - a randomized crossover trial

Short summary

Randomized controlled crossover study. 20 healthy volunteers will be randomized to receive either 1 liter of RingerĀ“s Lactate or 1 liter of oral tap water, and crossover afterwards. The primary outcome of the study is the increase in mean arterial pressure (MAP) after 30 minutes compared to baseline.

Rationale

No studies exist comparing the hemodynamic effects of oral and intravenous fluids.
