Comparing perioperative reduction quality for pertrochanteric fractures treated with intramedullary nail - blade vs. screw

Short summary

.

Rationale

When performing surgery with intramedullary nails for pertrochanteric fractures, there are two major types of implant design for the femoral neck fixation - either a screw or a blade. There could be different fracture positioning after implantation as the technique for insertion differs significantly between the two. The aim of this study was therefore to compare the perioperative fracture reduction in patients with pertrochanteric femoral fractures treated with either a screw (Gamma3 Trochanteric Nail (GTN3)) or a blade (Trochanteric Fixation Nail Advanced Proximal Femoral Nailing System (TFNA)) as the femoral neck fixation design of the intramedullary nail.

Description of the cohort

This single-center retrospective cohort study included patients treated for pertrochanteric fractures with either the GTN3 or TFNA intramedullary nail.
