Short summary
A large population-based questionnaire survey of 91,000 Funen residents aged 60-74. The questionnaire includes the information required to perform the six-year risk calculation for lung cancer by the PLCOm2012 formula, used to identify persons at high risk to be offered screening together with questions on quality of life and attitude to screening, and are followed for cardiovascular disease.
Rationale
In 2024, the Danish Health initiated a pilot screening study for lung cancer on Funen, following a large Dutch trial that reported a reduction in lung cancer incidence. However, feasibility alone does not justify introducing a permanent screening program; the psychological costs, benefits, especially cost-effectiveness must be acceptable. Therefore, we will perform a mathematical model calculation of the benefits, harms, and cost-effectiveness of lung cancer screening in Denmark using data collected from the PLUS study, registries, micro-cost studies of the healthcare professionals involved, and a large population-based questionnaire survey of
