Volume Replacement vs. Volume Displacement in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery: Patient-Reported Outcomes and Complications

Short summary

Recent studies have emphasized the importance of pushing boundaries to achieve breast-conserving surgery for more women, optimizing survival rates for breast cancer patients. This is possible using surgical techniques developed in plastic surgery. In volume displacement techniques, the tissue is often placed inside the breast, making the perforator flap tissue invisible for monitoring. This study compares the outcomes of perforator flap volume replacement with volume reduction procedures.

Rationale

To compare the clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction between perforator flap volume replacement and volume reduction procedures in oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery.

Description of the cohort

The cohort consists of patients who underwent oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery between 2020 and 2024, at the Department of Surgery, Plastic and Breast Surgery, Littlebaelt Hospital - University Hospital of Southern Denmark.
