Retrospective database of surgically treated Crohn's disease

Short summary

Crohn's disease (CD) is an inflammatory and incurable disease in the gastrointestinal tract. Surgical treatment often entails resection of the affected segment and primary anastomosis. At this point in time, some of the decisions regarding patients with CD is based on personal experience from previous cases and not standardized studies. By creating a database, it is our hope that we can lay the foundation for offering our patients a more evidence-based treatment

Rationale

The AIM of this project is to perform two studies from the same dataset of patients with CD. The studies are as follows: - A children's cohort study with the expected primary outcome being time between surgeries and location of CD, secondary outcomes are medical treatment, drug holiday timing, time from diagnosis and surgery, and the effect of time between the first two surgeries. - A cohort study, regarding all patients operated for CD, the expected primary outcome will be a comparison of the recurrence of CD between the group of patients who did experience adverse events during surgery, and those who did not. Furthermore, the different adverse events and the individual effect they have will also be examined.

Description of the cohort

All patients surgically treated for CD in the period from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2020 in the region of Southern Denmark.
