EMR randomized: Efficacy and safety of trans-anal resection of benign tumors with EMR/ESD vs. TEM

Short summary

With the new trans-anal staging possibilities, especially trans-anal ultrasound, it should be possible to assign patients to either the EMR/ESD or TEM procedure based on the preoperative characterization of the tumor. The objective is to clarify whether EMR/ESD or TEM should be recommended for patients with large, seemingly benign, rectum tumors larger than 2 cm.

Rationale

In an effort to avoid major surgery for benign rectal tumors, various new trans-anal minimally invasive procedures can be used: The overall objective of the study is when to recommend one or the other technique for resection of benign rectal tumors.

Description of the cohort

Inclusion:

Patients, who undergo colonoscopy, where a rectal tumor >2 cm, deemed suitable for local resection, is identified, are sent to trans rectal ultrasound(TRUS).

Data and biological material

Histopathology as well as clinical data within 3 months and "follow up" schedule is followed according to protocol.
