Outcome after bilateral sentinel lymph node biopsy and lymphadenectomy in vulvar cancer close to the midline

Short summary

Cancer of the vulva is a rare disease which is only diagnosed in 100 new patients a year in Denmark, and 20-30 % has metastasis on time of diagnosis. The surgical treatment of the cancer of the vulva is removal of the tumor, and removal of the lymph nodes with the Sentinel Node procedure. If the tumor is less then 1 cm from the midline, the recommendation is to remove lymph nodes on both sides, but the occurrence of metastasis on both sides is rare.

We wish to examin the frequency of lymph node metastasis in the contralateral pelvic area, in lateral tumors <1 cm from the midline. And to examin the frequency of lymph node mestastasis in the contralateral pelvic area, when tumor is lateralised to one side.

Description of the cohort

The patients are treatet in Gynaecological Cancer Centers in RH and AUH.

Data and biological material

The study is based on data from all Vulva cancer patients, which is collected and registret in The National Database for Gynaecological Cancer (DGCD) from January 2011 to December 2020. The Database contains data of clinical informations, patology and surgical procedures. Data will be validated with data from patient records.
