Significance of Geriatric Assessment for Optimal Treatment of Older Cancer Patients

Short summary

In a randomized controlled trial, we wish to investigate, if oncologic treatment decision based on G8 screening followed by CGA and subsequent MDT in older frail patients with gynecologic and urologic cancer is superior to standard assessment (PS and clinical assessment) in oncologic treatment decision.

Rationale

The number of elderly cancer patients is increasing significantly due to the aging population and the increasing incidence of cancer in general. Elderly patients constitute a heterogeneous population and are often excluded from clinical trials. They often suffer from reduced organ function and one or more comorbid conditions, increasing the risk of drug-drug interactions and of side effects to oncologic treatment. In addition some have cognitive dysfunctions resulting in difficulties in complying with the recommended treatment.

Description of the cohort

Patients with urologic or gynecologic cancer, who are 70 + years old

Data and biological material

Questionnaire and clinical data (quality of life, feasibility of planned oncologic treatment, survival, adverse effects).
