Causes of Death amongst Full Term Stillbirths and Early Neonatal Deaths in the Southern Region of Denmark

Short summary

There is sparse medical literature on specific causes of stillbirth; a significant proportion of causes are still unknown. The project is a systematic medical review evaluating full term stillbirths and early neonatal deaths of full term infants up to 7 days after birth. The review includes maternal medical journals in addition to autopsy and placental histology reports. Our goal is to elucidate different variables that may explain other etiologies contributing to the cause of death.

Rationale

The goal of our project is to elucidate different variables that may explain etiologies contributing to the cause of death with the aim that this knowledge will be helpful in pre-natal and post-mortem counselling as well as the initiation of preventive measures.

Description of the cohort

Our cohort consists of women in the Region of Southern Denmark, who delivered a full term stillborn infant or an early neonatal death between 2010-2014.

Data and biological material

Data was retrieved from two population registries (LPR, CPR), the birth registry (MFR) and a pathology registry (Patobank). Data will be collected from maternal medical journals, autopsy and placental histology reports.
