Medial collateral ligament as pulley in the reconstruction of the medial patellofemoral ligament for patients with lateral patellar instability.

Short summary

A simpler technique for reconstruction of MPFL in patients with patellar instability has demonstrated promising results in an earlier inventory of a smaller group of patients operated by only two surgeons. The method has since become the primary used method in the majority of hospitals in the region of Southern Denmark. For this reason, there is a need to investigate if the promising results are reproducible on a larger scale with multiple surgeons involved in a multicenter setup.

Rationale

In a retrospective study to investigate the outcome of functional non-anatomical MPFL reconstruction using the MCL as a pulley for the treatment of lateral patellar instability in adult patients in a larger multicenter setting.

Description of the cohort

All patients operated with MPFL reconstruction by this method within the region of Southern Denmark from 1st of January 2016 to 31st of December 2020.
