Characteristics and management of acute kidney injury in hospitalized patients with cirrhosis: A multicenter intercontinental observational prospective study

Short summary

Prospective, observational, multi-centre study, evaluating the epidemiology and the clinical impact of acute kidney injury in patients with cirrhosis in different regions of the world.


Rationale

Patients with liver cirrhosis are at higher risk of developing acute kidney injury which has a relevant impact in the clinical course of the disease. In recent years, new advances in the diagnosis and treatment of acute kidney injury have emerged, potentially improving the health of affected patients Unfortunately, there is no study assessing the prevalence, characteristics and management of acute kidney injury in different regions of the world.

The specific aims of this study are:

a) to assess the prevalence and characteristics of acute kidney injury in patients with cirrhosis admitted to the hospital in different regions of the world;

b) to evaluate the different treatments for acute kidney injury in patients with cirrhosis admitted to the hospital in different regions of the world;

c) to evaluate the clinical impact and prognosis of acute kidney injury on patients with cirrhosis in different regions of the world.


Description of the cohort

Patients with cirrhosis admitted to the hospital at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology for the treatment of a complication of liver disease (ascites, gastrointestinal bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, bacterial infections, jaundice, etc).
