Glucagone Like Peptide-1 Receptor Analogue Assisted Rapid Weight Loss Program as Treatment in Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension

Short summary

Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension is a severe and complex disorder of increased pressure intracranially at worst leading to visual loss. Patients are primarily young females with obesity. Weight loss is essential for disease remission. In this trial, current standard of care (guidance by a dietician) is compared to an aggressive weight lowering strategy: Very Low Calorie Diet for 8 weeks followed by treatment with a Glucagone Like Peptide-1 Receptor Analogue for 8 months.

Rationale

Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension is a severe and complex disorder of increased pressure intracranially at worst leading to visual loss. Patients are primarily young females with obesity. Weight loss is essential for disease remission, however hard to achieve. A fast, substantial and maintained weight loss is optimal.

Description of the cohort

Females aged 18-65 years with new-onset definite Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension, BMI >27 and no contraindications to intervention. No geographical limitations exist, but patients are recruited at the Department of Neurology at Odense and Glostrup Hospital.

Data and biological material

Weight, intracranial pressure, a number of ophthalmologcial investigations, ultrasonography of the optic nerve and liver, questionnaires on quality of life and headache burden, blood, urine and cerebrospianl fluid
