Profylactic acupuncture and post discharge nausea and vomiting. A randomized trial.
Short summary
The study is conducted as a single-blinded, randomized, placebocontrolled study with the intension of including 130 patients scheduled for knee arthroscopic surgery in general anaesthesia. The patients are allocated randomly to either traditional acupuncture or sham acupuncture. After surgery the patients are given acupuncture in the post-anesthesia care unit. After 7 days the patients are contacted by telephone and asked about pain and nausea during the 7 days after surgery.
Rationale
Postdicharged nausea and vomiting is a known in the mentioned population from a previous survey.
Description of the cohort
65 female, 65 male in the age of 15-50 years. ASA I-II.
