Performance of the screening for congenital heart disease in the Region of Southern Denmark 2017-2021. - A study of pregnant women in the Region of Southern Denmark expecting a child with congenital heart disease.

Short summary

The purpose of the study is to investigate the performance of the screening of congenital heart defects in the region of Southern Denmark in the period 2017-21. The study population constitutes of pregnant women referred to Dept of Fetal Medicine, Odense University Hospital for the investigation of fetal heart disease.


Rationale

Congenital heart disease is a frequent condition. In some cases the future infant can be operated with good result, and in other cases the long time survival is reduced and the quality of life is poor.

In Denmark, prenatal screening for malformations in gestational week 20 is a routine offer for all pregnant women. The performance of the screening is important for detection and treatment of congenital heart disease.

The purpose of the study is to investigate the performance of the screening in the region of Southern Denmark in the period 2017-21.


Description of the cohort

Approx 350 pregnant women and their fetuses in the region of Southern Denmark referred to Dept of Fetal Medicine, Odense University Hospital for investigation for a heart malformation.


Data and biological material

Data from the patient journal including results from the fetal ultrasoundscans.
