Perceptions and reporting of adverse drug events to Danish Patient Safety Database among physicians and nurses

Short summary

Drug treatment of children is challenging and may affect patient safety. Adverse drug events (ADEs) in children are well-known. In order to learn from and prevent future ADEs healthcare professionals are obliged to report any ADE to the national Danish Patient Safety Database (DPSD). However ADEs are shown to be underreported which may be caused by different perceptions of ADE definition among physicians and nurses.

Rationale

We conduct a questionnaire study which aims at evaluating the different perceptions of ADEs among nurses and physicians. Furthermore, we examine the likelihood of reporting certain types of ADE among these healthcare professionals.

Description of the cohort

The questionnaire involves both nurses and physicians working at pediatric wards located at the hospitals in the Region of Southern Denmark.

Data and biological material

Data from the participants are collected through a questionnaire in REDCap.
