Systematic oral hygiene in patients with hip fracture

Short summary

Infections are a significant problem in relation to patients' illness and mortality. It significantly increases the length of hospital stay, total hospital costs and are a concern for the patient. Studies on systematic oral hygiene in non-acute patients have shown to reduce the risk of infection after an operation. Based on the above, we will investigate whether systematic oral hygiene has an effect on the risk of infection after an operation on acutely hospitalized patients with hip fracture.


Rationale

To investigate whether systematic oral hygiene has an effect on the risk of infection after an operation on acutely hospitalized patients with hip fracture.


Description of the cohort

Patients with hip fracture at Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology.


Data and biological material

Sex, age, marital status, BMI, alcohol, smoking, functional level, anemia, hypertension, diabetes, COPD, heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, dementia, cancer, medicin.
