COPD and eosinophils

Short summary

The study will examine the relationship in COPD patients between eosinophils and COPD exacerbations. With the use of registry data, COPD exacerbations for patients with low and high amount of eosinophils will be calculated.

Rationale

It is well known in asthma that one of the reasons for decrease health status is increased number of eosinophils in the blood of the individual patient. Increased eosinophil count is reflected in increased use of OCS, numbers of exacerbations, decreased quality of life and increased use of different health care resources. This is not well described in COPD. Therefore, in the present study we will examine whether similar relations exist in COPD. This will be done epidemiological based on the Danish registries as described in the following.

Description of the cohort

Patients above 40 years in the period 1.1.12 to 31.12.23 with COPD diagnosis. Patients above 40 years in the period 1.1.12 to 31.12.23 without COPD diagnosis will be used as a control group.
