Short summary

Wegovy is a novel medicine, approved for medical treatment against obesity in combination with a lifestyle change (low-calorie diet and increased physical activity). Since the launch in December 2022 of Wegovy in Denmark, the interest in the medicine has been overwhelming. Although the effect is documented, not much is currently known about the Wegovy users themselves. Insight into this can contribute to the nurse being able to improve support patientens who uses Wegovy.

Rationale

The increasing prevalence of obesity is a national health challenge, which increases the development of morbidity and comorbidities. It has been documented in several double-blind studies that the effect of Wegovy combined with a lifestyle change reduces body weight by up to 18.6% spread over a period of 68 weeks with a maintenance dose of 2.4 mg. The users of Wegovy are a completely new group of patients, and at present not much is known about how the patient experiences the use of Wegovy. This study aims to investigate the patient's body image, feeling of support from the nurse and motivation for starting treatment. In addition the experiences with using the weight-reducing medicine Wegovy will be investigated. Insight into this can contribute to the nurse being able to improve support for the patients who uses Wegovy by meeting the patients where they are in the weight loss process.

Description of the cohort

5-10 semi-structured online and telephone interviews will be conducted in March 2024. To be included the participants must have been treated with Wegovy for a minimum of 3 months, must be over 18 years old and must be able to communicate in the Danish language. The recruitment of the participants is carried out through two Wegovy Facebook groups, with a total of 31,400 members. The Facebook groups are a closed forum where members have the opportunity to exchange experiences and ask questions. The invitation is made through a notice, which contains information about the project's purpose, inclusion criteria and information about the collection, processing, and storage of personal data.
