Patient experience of bilateral same day cataract surgery.

Short summary

The main goal of this study is to contribute to the improving of the treatment course and patient information regarding same day bilateral cataract surgery. This will have a positive impact on patients' treatment choices and quality of life.

Rationale

Challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and an increasingly aged population, have led to long waiting times for elective cataract surgery. The department of Ophtalmology at Odense University Hospital has tried to solve and adapt to the challenging circumstances and initiated innovative ways to meet the needs of patients. In order to reduce the waiting time for patients, the department of Ophtalmology has implemented the possibility of having cataract surgery on both eyes on the same day. This gives patients the opportunity to recover their eyesight more quickly. Likewise, the need for additional waiting time between two operations is eliminated and, in addition, resources is reduced by patients not having to attend two operation days. The aim of the study is to ensure the quality of the treatment, by gathering informations from the patients concerning their experience and satisfaction.
