Patients and Healthcare Professionals expectations of the prognosis following ankle fractures - a prospective cohort follow-up study comparing patients and Healthcare Professionals expectations following ankle fractures

Short summary

Ankle fractures are common, leading to significant short-term activity limitations. While most recover noticeably within six months, complete recovery is rare, with minimal improvement thereafter. Many patients are not aware of what to expect following discharge. This may be due to lack of communication between the healthcare professionals and patients on what to expect and/or healthcare professional's lack of knowledge.

Rationale

This study aims to compare expectations of healthcare professionals and patients regarding prognosis after ankle fractures. Additionally, it will compare patients' expectations of their abilities six months post-injury with their actual abilities.

Description of the cohort

Patients aged 18 years and older with ankle fractures admitted to a hospital. Following ICD-10 codes: DS825, DS826, DS827A, DS827B, DS828B, DS828.
