GastroPed. A pediatric surgical research database
The purpose of the project is to create a research database on children with congenital gastrointestinal malformations. The research database enables researchers to develop knowledge about different congenital conditions as well as natural history, outcome in general and in relation to surgery in particular.
The research database is created to develop knowledge on children with congenital gastrointestinal malformations. In Denmark approximately 100-150 children per year are diagnosed with such conditions mostly within the first month. The database enables researchers to create knowledge about different congenital conditions as well as natural history, outcome in general and in relation to surgery in particular. The database makes it possible to evaluate treatment in intensive and pediatric care, including surgery, and researchers will be able to know the outcome in terms of morbidity and mortality. The database will contribute to improve treatment and quality of life for these children.
Description of the cohort
The cohort includes every child with a congenital gastrointestinal malformation who undergoes surgery and is admitted in either unit H1 or H5, Hans Christian Andersen Children Hospital.
Data and biological material
Data is obtained from the patient files.
The data includes identification (name, sex, date of birth etc.), details on birth, discharge, administrative information (hospital, transfers, follow up etc.) and health (diagnoses, operation, complications, medicine, and nutrition).
Collaborating researchers and departments
HCA Research Unit, Hans Christian Andersen Children Hospital is responsible for the research database and collaborates with Surgical Department, Odense University Hospital.
